Yes, that is furniture on the front porch...

Welcome to your new home. You’ve seen the photos, you know about the
location, but there are still some unanswered questions. Let me try to
answer some of them.

The neighbors are without question the best I have ever had. They are
there with and for you when you want them, while respecting your
privacy and giving you whatever degree of solitude you want. Even when
you’re not, one or more most likely is at home, keeping an eye on
things and keeping the street safe for all of us.

In many ways I’m a stranger in a strange land; I’m very grateful for
how accepting my neighbors are. (Brief background--I’m concluding a
thirteen year stopover in NC, eleven in this home, hailing originally
from Albuquerque, headed next for the cooler climes of Canada.) For
such a diverse group the neighbors are uncommonly alike in this one
trait of acceptance. I will miss them all, the easy going block
parties, the holiday potlucks, watching the children grow up, the give
and take of everyday life.

The neighborhood is very stable--your agent will no doubt have pointed
out there is very little turnover on this street. I have no doubt that
you will be warmly welcomed into your new home, having seen how the
newcomers are invited and encouraged to participate as they wish in
the neighborhood events.

There are other neighbors here as well. I have logged 43 different
species of birds visiting the feeders and bird baths, with several
species choosing to raise their families in the birdhouses. I have
spent many peaceful hours sitting on the deck listening to the birds,
against a muted backdrop of traffic and suburban activity sounds. Yes,
there are squirrels as well.

Most recently I failed to notice wrens nesting in an item I had put
temporarily on the porch. There are four baby wrens at the moment, but
when they fledge in the next few days I will remove the item from the
porch and you will see a pristine porch. My apologies for not catching
it before they nested, but no apologies for letting them complete
their tenure in their first home. If you’re quick, you may get to see
them before they move on to their home in the wild.

If you have any questions or concerns, please ask them. I will do my
best to answer succinctly and honestly. I have been very happy here,
and believe whoever is lucky enough to move into this neighborhood
will be as well.

Tom
